Byron Lee

Byron Lee is true pioneer in all forms of Jamaican music. He was born to an Afro-Jamaican mother and a Chinese father 27 June 1935. He formed the famous Jamaican band Byron Lee and the dragonaires that went professional in 1956. Byron Lee introduced electric bass to Jamaica around 1960 which had changed the sound of Jamaican music forever.  In 1990 Byron Lee started the Jamaica Carnival which is now an annual event. He was awarded Order of Distinction in 1982 and Order of Jamaica in October 26, 2008. He died a few days later after a long battle cancer.
